Versailles, Ky
On the 25th of May, I had the honor of attending the wedding of my dear friends in Versailles, Kentucky. While the wedding was postponed several times due to the COVID pandemic, the couple got to celebrate their beautiful love story in a poetically beautiful wedding location – the bride’s grandmother’s church. The wedding party was made up of the couple’s closest family and friends – I used to go to high school with the groom, and I was also very close with the bride while I was a registered nurse.
The wedding day in itself was an ode to love and intimacy. The bride herself was dressed in a simple yet elegant wedding dress, while her bridesmaids wore jewel-toned dresses that mirrored the vibrant floral arrangements. From the decoration to the setting, it was obvious that the couple’s personal touch blessed each aspect of the wedding. This personal touch extended to the ceremony itself. The happy couple opted to write their own vows, resulting in some of the most heartfelt vows I’ve ever heard in my life. Once their wedding rings were exchanged and their first kiss was shared, the quaint little church erupted in cheers of joy for the happy bride and groom. Between the intimate guest list and the nostalgic wedding location, the wedding was indeed a joyous occasion.
The ceremony also included some unique touches. In proper German fashion, the couple participated in a traditional “Baumstamm sägen” (log sawing). As a symbol of their first obstacle as a married couple, they took turns sawing through a section of the log, working together to overcome the challenge. This act was symbolic of the importance of teamwork and unwavering support throughout their long and happy marriage.
While the log sawing was a powerful beginning to their marriage, perhaps the most precious detail to their wedding day was the addition of their newest baby girl. She was a sight to behold, and it was obvious that both the bride and groom cared deeply for the little baby.
In hindsight, my friends’ wedding wasn’t about extravagance and luxury. Ultimately, it was a down-to-earth and intimate celebration of love, family, and commitment. I only wish them a married and family life that is as beautiful as their wedding.
