Versailles, Ky
On May 25th, I had the honor of attending the intimate wedding celebration of my dear friends in Versailles, Kentucky. While the wedding was postponed several times due to the COVID pandemic, the couple finally got to celebrate their beautiful love story in a poetically beautiful church wedding in Kentucky—the bride’s grandmother’s church. The wedding party was made up of the couple’s closest family and friends. I went to high school with the groom and was also very close with the bride during my time as a registered nurse.
The wedding day itself was an ode to love and intimacy. The bride was radiant in a simple yet elegant wedding dress, while her bridesmaids wore jewel-toned dresses that beautifully mirrored the vibrant floral arrangements. From the wedding décor to the heartfelt details, it was clear that the couple’s personal touch blessed every aspect of the day.
This sentiment extended to the ceremony, where the couple chose to write their own heartfelt wedding vows. Their words were some of the most touching I’ve ever heard. When they exchanged wedding rings and shared their first kiss as a married couple, the quaint little church erupted in cheers of joy. With an intimate guest list and a deeply sentimental wedding location, it was a truly joyous occasion.
The ceremony also included some unique and meaningful touches. In true German wedding tradition, the couple participated in the Baumstamm sägen tradition—a symbolic act where they worked together to saw through a log, representing their first challenge as a married couple. This beautiful tradition highlighted the importance of teamwork and unwavering support in a long and happy marriage.
While the log sawing tradition was a powerful start to their journey, perhaps the most touching part of the day was the presence of their newborn baby girl. She was an absolute sight to behold, and it was evident how deeply the couple cherished their little family.
In hindsight, my friends’ Versailles, Kentucky wedding wasn’t about extravagance or luxury. Instead, it was a down-to-earth celebration of love, family, and commitment. I only wish them a married life as beautiful as their Kentucky wedding photography captured it to be.
